“Longteng” EPB Shield TBM Successfully Rolls Off the Production Line

On August 15, the “Longteng” Earth Pressure Balance Shield TBM, custom-built by Tangxing Technology for Section LPT1.1 of the Shanghai Longhua Drainage Storage Project, successfully rolled off the production line at Tangxing Technology’s Trenchless Industrial Park.

The main works of Section LPT1.1 of the Longhua Drainage and Storage Project include the construction of Ø1200–Ø3000 first-flush stormwater interception pipelines, an Ø2700 stormwater drainage upgrade pipeline, and an Ø1000 emptying pipeline, as well as interception upgrades to pumping stations along the route. The total length of the shield tunnelling works is 2,264 metres.

To meet the project’s requirements for long-distance tunnelling and sharp-curve construction, Tangxing Technology developed the 3800 EPB Shield TBM “Longteng,” with an overall length of approximately 130 metres. The machine features a double-spherical articulation system, enhancing steering and attitude-adjustment capability for sharp-curve sections. Its muck removal system is equipped with a telescopic screw conveyor combined with a multi-train muck transport system, supporting continuous and efficient material removal during long-distance tunnelling.

Designed around the specific construction conditions of the project, “Longteng” incorporates targeted solutions in key areas such as machine structure and muck removal, demonstrating Tangxing Technology’s capabilities in customized shield TBM design, system integration, and adaptation to complex construction conditions.

With the successful rollout of the “Longteng” EPB Shield TBM, the project is set to enter the shield tunnelling stage. Upon completion, the project will upgrade the stormwater drainage standards of the Longhua Airport and Longshuinan Road drainage systems in Shanghai, further reducing the impact of first-flush stormwater on receiving water bodies and enhancing regional flood control and drainage capacity. It will also contribute to improving the urban water environment and ensuring the safe operation of the city’s drainage system.
