“Zhongxin Xianfeng” Slurry Balance Shield TBM Successfully Rolled Off the Production Line

On July 16, the “Zhongxin Xianfeng” slurry balance shield TBM successfully rolled off the production line at Tangxing Technology Trenchless Equipment Industrial Park. With an excavation diameter of 4.38 metres and a total length of 79 metres, the machine will be deployed for the Shenjiaji Avenue Power Tunnel Project in Yangtze New City, where it will undertake an 815-metre shield tunnelling drive.

The project features complex geological conditions, including interbedded silt and clay, red clay, and moderately weathered rock strata. Karst features are also present in some sections, placing demanding requirements on the machine’s geological adaptability, excavation stability, alignment control, and spoil discharge efficiency.

To meet the specific requirements of the project, Tangxing Technology developed the customised SPM4310B slurry balance shield TBM based on the geological conditions, tunnel alignment, and construction requirements. The machine is equipped with a composite rock cutter head capable of excavating through both soft soil and rock formations, improving adaptability and spoil-handling performance under complex ground conditions. Its shield body features a spherical articulation system integrated with a newly developed gantry-type backup system, providing strong curved-tunnelling performance and precise alignment adjustment.

In terms of steering performance, the “Zhongxin Xianfeng” has a minimum turning radius of 90 metres, fully meeting the project’s minimum curve-radius requirement of 200 metres and supporting stable advancement along complex tunnel alignments. The machine is also equipped with a multi-mode cooling system and an intelligent monitoring system, enabling real-time collection and monitoring of key operating parameters. These systems further enhance operational safety, equipment stability, and construction management efficiency.

With the “Zhongxin Xianfeng” successfully rolling off the production line, the project has entered a new stage of equipment mobilisation and construction preparation.
