A Perfect Breakthrough for "Jinfeng" Double-Shield TBM

Recently, the "Jinfeng" double-shield hard rock tunnel boring machine (TBM) successfully completed the tunneling mission for the No. 2 tunnel of the Shanxi Zhangfeng Reservoir Jincheng Water Diversion Project. The tunnel is 5,000 meters long and is located in full-section hard rock strata. The project, which used TBM construction, faced significant challenges. The excavation diameter was 4.2 meters, the segment thickness was 0.25 meters, and the gravel backfill and grouting thickness were 0.13 meters.

In the face of complex environmental and geological conditions, the Tangxing Technology R&D team tackled the challenges head-on. They continuously optimized the plan and conducted comprehensive inspections and repairs on the aging Robbins TBM’s systems. Additionally, they focused on research and investment in key remanufacturing processes. After refurbishment, the aging Robbins TBM was transformed into a double-shield TBM, revitalized to match the needs of this project, with performance comparable to a new machine.

This full lifecycle remanufacturing model breathed new life into the TBM equipment, significantly improving its safety and stability, and providing a solid guarantee for the smooth progress of the water diversion project.
